Holidays – A Time To Share

A holiday is usually a day set apart by law or custom where public activities, particularly work or school including church, are either suspended or completely reduced. In general, such holidays are planned to enable people to celebrate an occasion or symbolically commemorate or celebrate an event of special cultural or spiritual meaning. There are occasions like New Year’s, Christmas, Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Halloween, Easter, Independence Day and several others that are celebrated every year in different countries or continents around the world. Holidays are not only observed for their fun-filled spirit but also as an opportunity to socialize and get closer to ones friends or loved ones. It is believed that by looking back on a particular holiday, one can gain much inspiration and motivation for the upcoming year.


Holidays primarily represent the time away from work, school or family but also provide a time to spend with loved ones and share warmth, love and joy. It is also a time when family members can spend quality time together to discuss about various issues and look forward for good news. For many people a holiday is the most favorite time to exchange presents, eat delicious food and enjoy concerts, movies and sporting events. In most cases, parties are organized during this period. Since there are innumerable holidays around the world, a wide variety of themes, decorations and festivities are offered to make the holiday season memorable.

Different religions and customs celebrate a number of days as national holidays while some celebrate more or less according to their own customs and beliefs. Holidays, no matter what their theme, symbolize the time off from work and school where people can spend quality time with close ones and relatives. A holiday becomes a memorable moment for a family, friends and relatives if it is well planned and well executed by everyone. It is essential for all to observe proper holiday traditions so that the festive spirit prevails throughout the year.
