Memorandum Concerning Quarantine Conditions Applicable to US Citizens

Travel is essentially the movement of humans between various far away geographical locations. Travel can usually be done by car, bike, foot, plane, train, bus or other mode, with either luggage or no luggage, and is usually one way to get around or over a place. All travelers have to do their part to protect themselves against infectious diseases like measles, rubella, syphilis, hepatitis B, HIV and malaria. All travelers should get themselves tested before traveling abroad and for some international travel especially, you need to have all the required vaccinations. However, for the United States a vaccination requirement does not exist. There are also vaccines for travelers against swine flu and Japanese encephalitis.

Travel abroad is not without its own set of travel restrictions and health considerations. The United States Department of State has published travel advisories and travel restrictions based on the countries which are included in the Travel Risk Assessment Model which attempts to create a global standard for evaluating the risks of travel. It is very important that these determinations be reviewed regularly as the standards may not be as updated as needed. In addition to the advisory travel restrictions, there are specific travel advisories issued by the State Department for specific countries.
